I use ordinary corn meal. If you already have the disease, then use it at a rate of 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. If you want to prevent the disease, apply at 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet every 60 days. Corn meal is an organic fertilizer, too, so you won't have to buy any more if you use that. I get corn meal at the feed store for about $10 per bag. If the price of corn returns to normal it should be more like $5 per bag or less.
Corn meal works by attracting a disease suppressant fungus called Trichoderma (try ko DER ma). When the Trichoderma are finished feeding on the fungi that decompose the corn meal, then they go to work on all the readily available fungi at the surface. The disease should be gone in about 2 weeks and you should see the grass greening up again in 3 weeks.
