I'm over by TCU in FW, have lots of trees & squirrels. I also have a 1970 copy of Joy of Cooking, in which is given explicit directions (illustrated, too) for skinning squirrels. Supposed to use them in Brunswick stew, I think. I put lots of cayenne pepper in my tray feeder, sprinkled coyote urine (puts my cats' back hair up) all around & sat back to watch. Squirrel scooted up the pole, stuck his nose in, jumped straight up, spun in the air & landed about 10 ft away from the feeder.
Now they just wait for the big fat white wing doves to knock it out on the ground. I also tried a wrist slingshot (my sweet hubby bought it), but after thumping one w/ raw peanuts & watching it not leave, lost my heart for that. Don't mind using it on the 'possums that like to wander around. Yes, I am in town, but apparently the local wildlife is doing just fine. No skunks yet;a few raccoons.
