Hi all!
This is pretty weird. When I began prepping my garden this year, I noticed three sunflower sprouts nearby last year's sunflowers. I decided to leave them, as they had a head start on everything else. I noticed that something had been eating the leaves, so I sprayed them down with hot pepper wax - big mistake as the leaves then burned. No more bugs, but very ugly plants. They've made a comeback, but they're being eaten again. There are small holes all over the leaves. Interestingly, none of my veggies have been touched - my tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and kale all seem to be doing well (this cold has halted their growth a bit, but they should be back to their vigorous growth later this week). Should I do something to protect my stray sunflowers or should I consider them bait plants and be happy the bugs are only intersted in them? Thanks for your thoughts!
Smiles,
Eric in Kerrville, TX
