I know its not a good tree. But it was here when I bought the house. The tree is about 60+ feet tall and about 18" wide at the base. The tree has always done great. Started out this year great. And all of the sudden has started to die. From the top down. The leaf edges darken curl and die. Most of the tree has lost it leafs. And now a bunch of carpenter ants have started moving in. They are moving into a branch cutting area I cut a few years ago. And now there are these insects running up and down the tree, they are about 3/4" long w/ neon green stripes going left to right. And they do fly. They don't seem to do much. But must be there for a reason. Any ideas? Or is this tree on its way out?

Do you know about how old it is? Other than the size? It's probably 25+yrs do you think? If so, it's probably dead. Same thing happened to ours. Here when we bought the house, died when the house was about 25 years old & I suppose the tree was too.

Plant a shantung maple instead!
