Can the tea from regular teabags and jut leftover tea in general be used in the same manner as coffee grounds and leftover coffee from the coffee pot?

Here I am talking about regular tea such as lipton's or Luzianne.

Phil, no one is minding the store.

Sure, tea and teabags are fine. Any organic matter. solid or in solution can be added to your compost pile or just incorporated into the first few inches of your garden soil. Ask your neighbors if you can have theirs'. Go to coffee shops and get all they will give you. You won't overdo it.

Coffee has certain special applications in the garden that I've never heard attributed to tea. Also so little tea is used in the preparation of a pot of tea versus a pot of coffee that the volume of material just isn't as easily available to test (is my guess).

It all goes in the compost.

If you search through the forums you'll find people have used them in roses and other specialty garden bed preparations. There may be an anti-fungal characteristic (don't quote me on that, but I think I remember hearing that.)

Coffee grounds and tea leaves are completely different materials. Coffee grounds are made from beans with a lot of protein in them. Tea is made from leaves with zero protein in them. It is the protein that gives organic fertilizer the nitrogen punch it needs to work. Leaves will give you nothing.

One purpose for leaves in a compost pile is to absorb ammonia gas. This ability was discovered by a scientist in the USSR back in the 20s. It explains why a compost pile with too much fresh manure stops smelling when you cover it with dry leaves.
