I have several recently planted trees that I purchased from King's Creek that have a fungal/rot problem around the base of the tree. After visiting the nursery I found that the top of the container is packed with 3-4 inches of leaves that were somewhat composted. I removed a couple of inches of loose bark where the fungus was and bared about 50% of the circumference. Will this heal? Is there anything else I can do? They seem healthy otherwise.

I am by no means a tree expert, but I'd get some horticultural cornmeal on them as soon as you can in order to start attacking the fungus. Follow up soon after with the full Sick Tree Treatment. It can be found in the Tree forum at the top of the topics list. This should give the trees their best chance of getting better, but others might have further advice to add. Good luck and keep us posted!
