Have a neighbor who insists the reason his driveway is sinking is because my Bradford Pear (which is approx. 15 yrs. old) is sucking all the moisture out of the ground. I don't believe this is the cause. When I informed him that I did not plan on cutting down my tree he thought he would bury a large sheet of metal to keep the tree roots from entering his yard. Has anyone heard of the ground sinking because of a tree using all of the moisture?

LOL

I had to cut down a huge pear in my fiance's yard last year due to her neighbor having a similar issue - yes, they suck up water like crazy and i have a pear making my sidewalk sink.

Not sure of the answer but pears are tough, if he wants to put a root barrier in be a nice neighbor, help him dig but leave the tree alone.

What sort of soil do you have on this property? Black clay with some white rock? Sandy?
