I have some big, green caterpillars that have taken probably 20% of the leaves off of one of the ?pin? oaks in my backyard. They are also on the other oak trees, though not as many. They are about an inch and a half long, two black ?antenna? towards the front, little black spikes all over. There is some webbing in the trees. I want to kill these suckers, home depot sold me malathion.....would prefer something less toxic. Anyone tell me what these hungry little buggers are and how to get rid of them before they kill my tree???? They are stripping the leaves off the tree and working their way up to the top...

Anything with Bt in it, bacillus thuringinsis. Bt is a disease for caterpillars and works quickly. Green Light makes something if you can't find anything else.

If there was something you could do to attract birds to your trees, do that, too.

In the future, be sure you keep all the paper wasps you can keep around your house. Wasps usually eat caterpillars faster than they can reproduce.

I don't know where Keller is, but every garden shop in Texas should carry at least some Green Light products. Call around and ask for "BT Worm Killer."
