I just moved into a new home in Arlington. I really dislike the lawn and want to change it. Currently, the soil is very spongy and the grass is thin and brittle. This is my first home and my first attempt at gardening. No kids and no pets. I want something plush, thick and green...a good foundation for future projects. It needs to look nice. Do I need to get rid of the grass AND soil and start from scratch? If so, what's the best way to do that? I also have tall shrubs that need to be trimmed and 3 large (about 6 feet tall) pear bearing trees in the back yard that I would like to get rid of.
HELP!
Thanks,
Carolyn
