Do you think you could have an impact on the total squirrel population by trapping/killing them on your property? If so you might make a water trap. Take an 18 gallon or larger Rubbermaid bin, half fill it with water, lay a board across it so the squirrels can get up and in, and float sunflower seeds on the water. Someone reported catching 15 chipmunks a night in a trap like that.
Then, if you have at least a cubic yard of compost working in your yard, bury the morning's catch in there under at least a foot of compost. The dead ones should disappear in 4 days or so in a hot pile.
