 Post subject: how bad are oak leaves?

some say they take forever, some say they arent that bad? can i get a hot compost pile with oak leaves making up a large portion on browns? i shredded a big drum full with a hedge trimmer for aout 45 minutes however they werent as shredded as id of liked them to be, but my lawn mower is broken and was the only option i had.but if oak leaves are so bad whats the best, fastest breakng down carbon source ?

Keep the oak leaf pile moist with a misting nozzle and in about 2 weeks they will slump down and start to decompose by themselves. It takes that long with continual moisture for them to start to decompose.

No leaves are bad for the compost. If that were the case, the forests would be in serious trouble.

I've, in the past run my oak leaves thru a leaf shredder machine called a Flotron?,it's a bit loud,but it does a really good job.
