I have a new red oak that was planted in Dec 2011. I'm pretty sure oak wilt has caused it death. I would like to remove it soon and plant possibly a Bald Cypress in it's place in the fall. Can another tree be placed in the same spot and be safe from the fungi that killed the oak? Thanks!

Oak wilt can affect any kind of oaks, and since a baldcypress is unrelated to the oak family, it will be fine.

Here is the Library entry about Oak Wilt.
