I dont know what kind of shrub it is, but its like a miniature holly (prickly leaves) and is about 4 feet tall. I have two, one on the southeast side of the house the other northeast. Northeast is doing perfect. But on the other, half of its leaves are turning yellow, and in between each leaf and stem looks likes small mounds of dirt or grime. Does anyone know what this is? I sprayed down with garrett juice today, hopefully that helps but I doubt will be enough.

You've posted the photos, it sometimes takes a little while for someone to recognize it and answer. I suggest you call the radio show on Sunday and tell the call manager that you sent photos. See if Howard can identify it and offer suggestions.

Meanwhile, you can use the sick tree treatment around these woody shrubs and give them a boost. If they don't make it, the soil will be in good shape for another planting.

Have you looked to see how they are planted? Trees can be planted too deep - I suspect for woody shrubs that can also be the case. Try pulling back the dirt from around the base and checking to see if the roots are wrapped around the stem or not; give them a general check to see what their disposition is.

It looks possibly like scale which can be resolved by spraying Neem oil early in the morning. Neem will also take care of fungal diseases.

If you can scrap the things off with your nail, it's scale.

One of the things that you can do is to simply mechanically remove pests. Have you tried hitting these with a hard shot of water, systematically spraying to knock off the growths or pests?

Don't use need when it's really hot (over 90) or you'll kill it outright.
