I have a 4 year old live oak who's leaves are suddenly turning yellow and brown. The tree has been weakened by last years drought, has dead growth on the crown. I thought it was making a come back, until this.

Is this too much water, too little water, oak wilt?

You didn't say how much you were watering. Can you see the root flare?

Thanks for the response. I have an automatic sensored system, though its been off for a couple of weeks. The other live Oak nearby (about 40 feet away) is not suffering from the problem, though its a bit downhill and may benefit from drainage. have a picture, but cant send it as the file size is exceeded on this system. This occured, again, literally from one week to the next.

I'm thinking its too late. Not a happy situation. Just want to make sure a) it is too late, and b) it ain't going to be spreading
.

but how often does it water and for how long?!

Water 1x a week on the tree but deeply. Use an organic root stimulator monthly. If it's on a slant, it probably isn't getting enough water. You can put a 'tree gator' on it which holds about 15 gallons of water and delivers it to the tree very slowly. Do that weekly.

The tree is on an automatic systems and a bubbler, so its hard to say. However, apparently the system went down about three+ weeks prior to this when the electricity went out and the backup battery failed. So no water outside of rain from the last week of May thru the third week of June when I caught the problem. This tree was a "runt" when planted and suffered badly last summer. Lots of dead growth on he top which I was about to trim off. Love to attach a pic but the permitted file size is way too small. :(

By the way, no more yellow leaves. They all fell off. Only a few green leaves left on lower branches. Will attempt sick tree treatment and water. All other trees are fine.
