 Post subject: stinging nettle

how can I get rid of stinging nettle in my yard.

I have tried vinegar and hand pulling but it comes back too fast :?:

Tommy, I do not see where you are located, so I am not sure what type of stinging nettle you have.

In the sandhills of South Texas, we have what we call 'bull nettle.' Hand pulling does not work on bull nettle because you have to pull out the entire root. Otherwise, the tuberous roots will send up a new shoot. :(

As a solution to that problem, we use tin cans! What we would do was take a hoe or shovel, knock off the top of the plant, dig down a ways, and cover the root with the tin can. And then cover the can back with soil.

Worked wonders! :) It did take awhile to do though. We had four acres to cover.

However, even fifteen years later, if we accidentally took the can off, that blankety-blank nettle grew back! Unbelievable how resilent some plants are.
