Yew Shrubs: After buying 3 gorgeous 4 foot shrubs at the local nursery, I have not been able to learn about the proper soil and care for these beautiful shrubs. The tag on them merely claimed they are multi trunked.

They are beautifully planted in my shaded back yard which gets afternoon sun, with underplantings of Victoria Blue Salvia. A very pretty island which brings a smile to my face each morning as I sip my coffee in their presence.

Please let me know any special care I should offer them.

Thanks so much. :D :D :D :D

Well, I'm assuming you're talking about Japanese Yew. They need regular watering, but they don't like wet feet (soil that stays too wet) so good drainage is always a good policy. This shrub (eventually a tree) is one of the few plants that can be depended on in the landscape to grow in a narrow fastigate form. It is relatively tolerant of different soil conditions, but appreciates a slightly acidic soil rich in organic matter. Mulching is a good idea.
