I am looking for information on fruits and vegetables that are native to the Dallas area. Can anyone help?

You said "native" to the Dallas area. Either you are doing a huge research project or you meant "adapted", or will grow well here. I will assume the latter. Texas Organic Vegetables and Edible Landscaping is a book about food crops for Texas including vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs and edible landscape plants. The author is the man behind this web site, Howard Garrett. There are also several large garden clubs in the Dallas area. Two I can mention are the Dallas Organic garden club, which is organic, and the Dallas Mens garden club which is sometimes organic. But heh, what other club offers a calendar with 70 year old nude men posing on it.

Tony M-

No, I meant the former. I am curious as to what fruits & vegetables grew here BEFORE all of the adapted plants were brought in. Something I'm curious about.

I should have taken the long shot. There is a state wide organization, Native Plant Society of Texas, that has local chapters. The web address is: http://www.npsot.org/. They will be able to help you or direct you.

I got a "native" cherry tomato plant from Lady Bird Wildflower center spring sale this year. It grew so well and is producing magnificently. I don't know much more about it, but I'm saving the seeds to try again next year!
