I am installing an above ground pool and am told I need to sterilize the soil under the pool. Is there an organic way to insure no nut grass will come up without sterilizing the soil. (I am told it will grow through the liner) I have removed most of the grass (mostly bermuda and dallas grass) in the area where the pool will be with a shovel, but am afraid that if I haul in sand to level and fill that I will get some nut grass with it. Any help will be appreciated.

I would like to speak with the person who told you grass would grow up throught the liner to better understand their view. Water weighs approximately 8lbs a gallon. An above ground pool has between 5-8000 gallons of water in it. I have installed two above ground pools. My concern was ensuring anything that could puncture the liner, due in part to the weight of the water, was removed or covered. I did remove all the organic material to level the base and to remove anything that would rot.

Yes, I don't understand it either but I have personally seen it grow through the black plastic and liner in just 3 short years.

No clue how to prevent it.

If you use washed brick sand you shouldn't have a problem. I covered the entire bottom of a 33X16 pool that way and never had a problem.
