We moved to SW Arkansas about 6 months ago and now have 5 acres. I would like to purchase one of the mower trimmers so I can reduce the amount of time using the weed whacker (NOT my favorite gardening chore). My husband does not want to spend the money but he is not the one doing the work. I have been using the weed whacker on about 15- 20% of the edge. We have 5 acres which includes a 1 acre pond. The edge of the pond slopes down fairly steeply and we cannot use the lawn tractor there, hence the desire for the mower trimmer. Right now the edge of the pond has weeds almost waist high.

If anyone has one, how do they like it? Do you have a recommended brand? How easy are they to use? Do you think they are worth the $$?

Thanks. planosmith

Yes, Stihl makes good equipment but they don't make the type of thing I am looking for...... I am looking for a giant (string ?) trimmer. They usually have 2 wheels in back and a ball or one wheel in the front. They can cut a really large swath and can usually cut pretty heavy stuff on sloping areas like down the slope to the pond. I need something that will cut down on the TIME spent cutting what the lawn tractor cannot. We have an electric and a gas string trimmer.

I have seen advertisements for D R Trimmer. Others make a similar machine.
