I have now dug to 64 inches and have no root flair. After talking to Howard this AM am encouraged to go as far as needed. Will keep you posted and add pictures later.

I have dug a foot and have not reached the root flair. How far should I dig? This is 100+ year old tree and is looking unhealthy.

At the presentation Howard gave on Saturday, he showed a tree that they had used an airspade on to get down to the root flair. Probably about a foot or so, and this was a small tree (relatively). I would say keep going- but I am NOT an expert by any means, just a beginner.

I am interested in seeing any pictures of your roses, too..
