Rotenone has been the subject of some debate before, including its use as a pesticide in California and being linked in previous studies to Parkinson’s. It is also toxic to nontarget species and further research could tie it more closely with Parkinson’s than it already is. Health Effects: Neurological toxin- linked to Parkinson’s Disease. May cause kidney and liver damage.
Environmental Effects: Very highly toxic to fish. Very toxic to birds and swine. Slightly toxic to wildfowl. Residues are persistent.
The current weight of evidence strongly suggests that environmental neurotoxins may play an important role in the etiology of Parkinson’s Disease.
