I'm planning a shrub barrier to conceal my pool pump which is about 10' from my pool deck. I need something thin and a min of 5' tall. I found some Japanese Sky Pencils and thought this would be a good look. While I was digging out the shrub line, I found that the (6) 2" PVC water pipes were only about 15-20" down.
Would it be alright to plant them directly over the pipes thinking that they would just find their way around them?
Would the roots of this plant penetrate the lines?
Would it be too shallow that it would stunt the growth or kill the shrub altogether?

I'm in the Philadelphia region.
