First leaves of new cucumber plant are white. It appears to be the leaves themselves and not a mildew on them. What could be wrong or is this normal for the first leaves?! New at veggie gardening!

Thanks!

Did you ammend your soil with organic matter? I would mix up some Garrett Juice or just a seaweed/fish emulsion solution and feed it once a week. Do the rest of your plants look ok?

Hey Txcowgal, you think you can attach some photos? If we could see it, then it would be alot more ez, as this could be anything.

Thanks for trying to help! The second leaves that grew looked great! It must have been too much water maybe? They were actually kind of yeallow looking. After the rain we had yesterday and today everything looks fantastic!!!

One more question though....can I use pine straw around the base of all my vegetable plants in our graden? My Mom brought some back for me from East Texas and I want to use it for mulching but was worried about the acidity when it starts to decompose. Any thoughts?

It's fine. By all means, mulch away.
