I was reading about elephant ears at http://www.dirtdoctor.com/organic/garde ... on/id/403/

I have the giants. They were planted in 2008. The bulbs multiple in large size; they are over growing the bed that I planted them. Can I divide the bulb base or dig it up in the spring? The top of bulb base is soft and watery. Is that a problem sign?

Thanks,
TP

Ya, do it in the spring. Dig it up and just pull it apart by hand (kind of like dividing herbs). But sometimes it doesn't work. I did this at an appartment complex once and they looked like they were going to die after I divided them. But they took in about a week after that and were healthy. I think if the soil you transfer the (divisions) to is exactly the same as the (host) plant, then it will have a better chance of working. Good luck.
