Does anyone know what these are? They like to be on an eggplant in my garden. Never seen them before, but am assuming they're friendly.

I have seen these too! I do not know what they will grow up to be. Since they are in an instar stage, they are difficult to id. Try www.BugGuide.net. Let us know what you learn!!

Those are leaf-footed bug nymphs as wormrancher said. They are not your friend. I have been removing these and the adults from my ocra because they suck juices from the plant leaving stunted growth.

Their mouth is a long probe. They will suck the life out of your eggplants or squash plants, if enough hatch out. Look for large patches of eggs on back side of leaves. in patches as large as a quarter. These bugs are not your  friend.
