When should I prune my butterfly bush? Last year it didn't need pruning or trimming, but this year it has gone bananas!!!! All within the last month. I really need to prune it. When would be the best time???

I would wait till winter, otherwise you're cutting off some of the buds. It's always better to prune in late fall/winter.

Thank you kindly! I don't know why it's gotten so big!!! I'll wait; the birds enjoy sitting in the branches anyway. Buttlerflies? I'm still waiting on them!!!

I had one at my previous house that was at least 10ft tall about 8 ft wide. I had to prune it on one side so it would scrape up my neighbor's car in his own driveway.

Luckily, this one is contained in my back yard, but . . . I need to do some major pruning on this baby. The other one has been pruned and it doesn't seem to want to get large at all.

thanks for the info!!!!!! And for reminding me that these things get HUGE!!!
