Hi - I live in McKinney,Tx in a heavily wooded area. We have gone through so many bird feeders in the past year. At night something big is knocking down the feeders. I have big red metal ones now and I find these on the ground too - but at least they are in one piece. Any ideas of what kind of critter it might be trying to get at the seeds? It must be bigger than a squirrel - Possum? Raccoon? Any ideas on how to stop it?

Assuming it is not one of these guys, it is probably as you have suggested, a possum or raccoon.

I read an article once many years ago that someone said he found coyote or bobcat scent or something similar (I do not remember the details) and sprayed around the feeders. May not have been true. The only thing I know is to make them easy to hang, then bring them in at night.
