I seem to have fewer chickadees around my feeders lately.

I have heard that there is a message in the number of dee-dee-dees. The call is an alarm call. A few dee-dee-dees and the bird is concerned, but not overly upset. The more dee-dee-dees the chickadee strings together, the more alarmed it is about a particular threat.

I've seen fewer everything this year..except doves. Fortunately I have a beautiful family of wrens that wake me every morning with the screeching. I have had only 1 caterpillar in my garden also, where normally this time I would have given the parsley over to the swallowtails.
