I would like to plant patty pan, yellow crookneck and zucchinni next to a trellis and encourage the plants to grow up. Has anyone tried this?

Yes it can be done very easily!

There are several organic books dealing with companion planting and vertical planting on the internet, or at various gardening libraries that explain the process pretty simply.

Happy Gardening!
