I have been seeing more Eurasian Collared-Doves in McKinney. They are similar in size and appearance to a Mourning Dove but lack the black spots on the wings and have a narrow black band on the back of the neck, sometimes hard to see.

This is a European bird that becames established in Florida in the 1980s and has quickly spread to almost every state. So far, they do not seem to be interferring with native species.

We have two pair of these Dove around our yard. I thought they were Pigions. Thanks for the info. Do these birds mate for life?

From what I have read there is significant pair fidelity. Pairs remain together during the breeding season and sometimes through the winter. Apparently they produce multiple broods in warmer climates, which probably supports the pair bond.

Thought it might be good to show what this bird looks like.
