I am developing areas in my st. augustine lawn that just become brown and some, but not all of the grass in that area dies. I attributed this last year to heat and drought and this year to too much rain but I am now beginning to think it is moles/gophers. Do these critters eat the root system of the grass and cause these areas to brown out/die? I have heard that they look for grubs to eat and this is what attracts them. I have looked at the info in the library but am not sure how to attack. I looked on line and found sonic devices for sale, organic fox urine, etc. Has any one tried any of these products and did they work? HELP

1st I'd cut out a good sized plug, fairly deep to see if you have grubs. I think if you had moles, you'd see the raised tunnels in your yard.

Some grubs are not that bad, I think HG has a 'limit', i.e., not more that a few per square ft. (obviously I'm unsure of the #)

Others have used green sand to clear up similar complaints. Someone used FE supplement...you can do a search on this forum for 'yellow St. Augustine'.
