River birches will do great with creeks of no or few limestones.
Shumard red oaks and Texas Red oaks will do great.
Bigtooth maple is good.

Texas ashes ,junipers, bur oaks, chinkapin oaks, live oaks, lacey oaks, vasey oaks will too.

Also, does the creek floods easily?

Yes, it does flood pretty easily. I lost a Shumard red oak about a month back. I think I've figured out a way to stake them though.

It takes a pretty big rain for it to flood, however. A day after the rain, the site dries up pretty good.

I plan on planting several large specimen trees to give the creek a more natural look.

What about a Vitex? I've got well-draining clay soil, but its a partly shady site. Any thoughts on this tree? I just discovered it (see other post) and really like the appearance.

Also looking at a Desert Willow. Any thoughts on this are welcome.

Thanks again...

Vitex is being considered for the invasive species list. I would stay away from that tree although it is quite striking.
