my wife transplanted a climbing rose two springs ago I was told not to trim it and it never bloomed, this spring I trimmed it and it bloomed. So do you trim climbing roses or not? and do climbing roses have to have somthing to climb on?

If you trim the roses, I would do it lightly and only in the winter. You do not HAVE to have support on your climbing roses but you're liable to end of with a jumbled mess of canes if you don't. It's a way to help the plant stay upright. There are no real rules here, do what you want.

Generally, climbing roses are pruned after they bloom, not in winter or other times like bush roses. CK this site for more info. & search the Internet for various info. Climbing roses need to have something to climb on or they will be a mess on the ground with grass/weeds growing in the canes. Some people don't trim at all. Trimming is to control the size of plant & perhaps enhance the bloom size, etc.
