If you live in the eastern 2/3rds of the United States you are probably very familiar with loud, raucous Blue Jay. But did you know the Texas Rio Grande Valley (actually Corpus Christi south to Mexico) is home to the very colorful Green Jay. The Green Jay is easily attracted to backyards that feed orange and grapefruit halves, fruits very common in the Texas Valley.

Here are a couple of photographs and a note on their interesting family behavior.

The Texas Rio Grande Valley has more colorful and unusual birds than maybe any place in the U.S. I'll be headed back down in a couple of weeks to take a few more photographs.
