I have a Black Locust tree in my front yard that was doing very well until about August. Several of the smaller limbs' leaves began turning yellow and dropping off untill those limbs are bare of leaves altogether. However, the largest two main branches have full green leaves on them. At that time, I went and started digging around the soil of the trees and found 100's of grub worms!!! So, I proceeded to dig them out and applied the sick tree treatment. I got to wondering if this was the case with all the other trees in my front yard, and to my dismay, it was! So, I proceeded to do the same with my other trees. But, I still wonder, if it was the grubs that made by little black locust lose all its leaves on the smaller branches or not. There appear to be a few new green "nub"s coming out on these smaller bare branches now. Could there be something else wrong with the tree to cause it to do this? Or could it have been the extreme heat? Could overwatering do this?

Thanks for any help!

Well, I don't know about the grubs causing the problem, but I imagine they were attacking b/c the tree was in stress.

We've lost 4 black locust in our woods but they were probably 20+ years old & 2 were maybe older b/c they were really big. Was very sad but I've read that they don't have a long life. So don't plant them.
