I have two Live Oak trees about fifty feet apart. One of the trees last year and this year also, has leaves that are turning partially brown with what looks like hairy wooden marbles growing on the stems. The big problem is that Yellow Jackets and Wasps of all types are attracted to this tree. It's dangerous just to walk by. There is not a nest in this tree. What can I do to elimate these problems? Thanks, Robert

Is it gall? Do a search and see if you can find a picture for this. A&M had these balls growing on all their live oaks. I'm sure you need to support the tree better by exposing the root flare and applying the sick tree treatment. I'm not sure what to do about the wasps. We have few on our place and ones we do have a very docile.

We used to have more when we first moved here. I wonder if going organic helps keep these in balance and keeps them from over populating and becoming aggressive. Do they get aggressive when their are many of them and they have to really fight for space and food?

There's something attracting the wasps, which are beneficial. Could there be sap oozing?
