I have a rather strange question to pose to all of you fellow gardeners. Does anyone know if it is safe to use metal hangers in the garden, the wire ones that come from the dry cleaners? I would like to bend them and use them as a support for my Indigo Spires salvia that likes to flop over. I have tried to search the web to find out what they are made of, but I have had no luck. I have some herbs growing near the salvia, so I don't want to contaminate the soil with lead or anything else. I know that you can buy supports specifically for this purpose, but I thought that I would be clever and recycle instead. Thanks!

I did a google search on the matter as well. The 6th item which came up was a reference to your post! I did send an inquiry to a manufacturer and will let you know if I get a response.
I doubt seriously if there is anything there that would be harmful. It is such a small object that if there were something that may be considered harmful, it would be most likely be taken care of by the beneficial life in the soil. Just don't put more than 100 down per square foot.
