I'm finally going to give in and put down St. Augustine sod in some bare areas in the back (we've only had bermuda since being in this house). How much time do y'all think I have for laying sod for it to be successful before it gets too cold? I live south of Denton. I plan to put a layer of organic compost down and then the sod.

Thanks for any advice! :D

Go ahead and plant. The compost is a good idea and risk of freeze damage is remote. I usually recommend planting solid sod year round if it is available.
