Hi all. I received my first hummingbird feeder for Mother's Day. Where is the best location to hang it? Will it be okay in the sun or only shaded areas? Do I need to plant HB attracting flowers around the feeder to entice them to it? I have hung it in what limited shade I can find and have had no takers. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. :?

The Best-1 Hummingbird feeder manufactured in Texas is a very popular choice. However, there have been reports of injuries to hummingbirds using the Best-1 feeder.

Visit this site for information on modifying a Best-1 hummingbird feeder so it will be safer to use.

I second Birdzilla's suggestion of the Best-1 feeder. They represent a good value and are very durable. We take ours on vacation each year where it gets a very good workout. Some years we have had each "station" occupied with several hummers awaiting their turn. Never have we had a situation occur as described on the link, and the hummers don't seem to have a problem feeding.

Drifting off topic...We have had some recent trips where we had the Roufus hummingbird. This bird proves to be a real pest. Often chasing off the other hummers and feeding very little itself. Does anyone have any experience is making this bird feel unwelcome? I have resorted to a flyswatter, but it doesn't seem to deter them. :?
