I read many times that live oaks were once built for shipbuilding. It is the heaviest, strongest wood of all the oaks(which I read). Has it ever been built besides for ships? Now, it is not used much but for shade and beauty.
Of course, the one who woul cut a 300 years ild live oak is probably asking for trouble. I thought maybe use some of the live oak wood from live oaks that has been damaged from hurricanes as in Florida.

If a live oak had been damaged by hurricanes, do you think it would be seaworthy? I mean, water has already victimized it. Maybe I am being a bit supperstitious... Are you needing to build an ark, or just a little John Boat? <g>
