I want to plant garlic bulbs in my garden over the winter so they're ready for spring... when can I expect to see them at my local nursery?

As the general concensus is to plant garlic about October if you haven't seen any you probably should try to order from an on-line source. You might find more help here: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/allium/

I just buy organic cloves from Whole Foods and plant them.

Although it is a little late to order seed garlic, Filaree Farm is a good great source. Lots of different varieties to chose from. Be sure to select a softneck variety, not hardneck which don't do well this far south.

Is it too late to plant cloves now and let them over-winter? Approx. when would they be ready to harvest?

You know what, I decided to keep doing things wrong. I bought some garlic from Walmart's grocery store and planted them over the weekend.
