In one corner of our yard we have a 10" ring of darker colored grass? In addition we have mushrooms that come up in that area. Does anyone know what that is and what needs to be done?

That's called a Fairy Ring. It's a soil fungus and the greener parts are a result of organic activity where the fungus is breaking down things. I've never had it myself, but a good dose of horticultural cornmeal (not corn gluten meal) might take care of it, but I can't say for sure. Perhaps someone else might provide a better course of action for you.

Yeah it's a fairy ring. Sometimes they kill the grass and sometimes they do this. Still I would treat the area and surrounding area with ordinary corn meal.
