I have a small backyard 30'X40' and need to plant one or max 2 trees. I don't want the yard to get totally covered up so am looking for a good small to medium tree that thrives in North Texas. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Andy

Have you considered a Redbud? Fairly easy & pretty. Crepe myrtles too. Or Japanese black pine?

I am partial to native oaks or cedar elms. Otherwise you can check with Benny Simpson:

Besides size and suitability to N. TX, what other requirements/preferences do you have? Evergreen or deciduous, flowering, fruiting, nuts or berries for wildlife... I'm always partial to native (to TX) plants. Some others besides Redbud and Cedar Elm to consider are:

Mexican Plum (flowers, fruit for wildlife)
Vasey Oak (nuts for wildlife) may be a bit big but smaller than live oak. The Texas Discovery Gardens has one you can look at.
Desert Willow - (flowers, but not much shade)
Rusty Blackhaw Viburnum (flowers, fruit for wildlife, fall color)

I'm sure there's more, so you may want be more specific about your needs.
