I hope someone can help me with my yard. I am being over run by crabgrass and nut grass, and it is starting to drive me crazy.

I put down corn gluten meal in the spring to try to prevent the crabgrass from starting .

20% vinegar will kill the crabgrass but it seems to come back.

I have tried the new crab grass killer product, but it's to early to tell if it works.

I sprayed 20% vinegar on some nut grass in my flower beds, but it appears to just make the edges of the grass turn brown. I don't know if it will kill it.

Can anyone help before I give up and get the chemicals?

I have been organic for about 2 years.

I'm not sure exactly what you put on your lawn, but be careful of some organic products that may contain weed seed in them. Double check to make sure its not coming from your admendments.

You could get some potting soil and test the product if your not sure!

Good Luck!

You might try something I stumbled on a few years ago. I was putting amendments on a garden area and had extra molasses so I just added it in to the last bed. I knew it was extra heavy but that it would only do good tings. To my surprise and delight, it killed the heck outta some nut grass we'd been fighting in that bed. So we tried it in a couple of other places, and it seems to work the best in hot, hot weather like right now!

Put down a really heavy application of molasses. If you use it dry, make sure you have a solid coating on the area you treat. If you use it wet, make the mix very dark and heavy. The effect seems to be that the soil becomes so active and rich that it rots the little nutlets. Makes sense to me. Then you are left with sweet, rich soil for your turf to grow into. Nice!

Hope this works for you like it's worked for me. I just did it recently in my new house where I had a very small problem. It killed them off in less than a week.
