okay, so Im having a crazy time figuring out what is up with my lawn. I have patches of dead and dying grass, with tunnels accompanying them. I've looked for grubs and have found none, and the holes I see--there are plenty, about 2 inches in diameter--have no mounds, zero dirt pushed out. My understanding is that moles or voles wouldn't kill my grass (heard they can be good for it because of aeration, or something like that... hmmm) but that grubs--mole food--would. But wouldn't I see grubs? and wouldn't I see mounds of dirt at the holes if it were moles? But if it is voles, what are they doing in my lawn and ignoring my garden, and why is my grass dying? I wouldn't even mind the tunnels if it weren't for the dead grass. And what the heck do I do to get rid of whatever they are, natural/organic options only? Aaaaarrrgghhh. (thanks)

I would attack any insects you might have with beneficial nematodes. Whatever is digging the holes is probably after insects that you are not seeing. Kill the source of food and the predators go away.
