I have found that cutting my lawn for the first two months of the growing season at 1.5" really did help with the thickness. However, I too wanted the grass greener and moved it to 2" and it is still as thick and many times as green. What else do you do to the lawn as far as dry and wet feedings?

Bermuda likes frequent feedings to remain dark green.

Yes you can gradually lower your mowing height. You may find high spots that scalp the grass off. You'll have to fix those by lowering them or raising the surrounding areas.

You might try renting a reel lawnmower for a few weeks. Folks who have gone to reels swear by them for mowing the three low loving grasses: bermuda, bentgrass, and centipede.
