Welcome to the site :) . I was in your part of the country 8) last month (Family from the Wheatland Area :D ) and we have in the yard appears to be Fescue. I do not know which type but I believe there are "drought" tolerant types. The yard is watered infrequently with well water and mowed High. If you like bermuda, that will do fine too, mow low so it gets really thick. You could also look into Zoysia (several types some grow fast/some slow) Fescue is seed some sod not common, Bermuda both sod or seed your choice, and Zoysia is Sod or Plugs. I used Zoysia plugs in Colorado and it was about two years before they melded together. I now live in San Antonio and my front yard is Jammer Zoysia :D . I personally love it. It is drought tolerant, grows faster than most types of Zoysia, but is thick and if I forget to water mid summer, it will eventually just go dormant (similar to Bermuda). Sod vs seed well Sod = instant yard and seed = lots of birds. no actually either are good the key is to the preparation of the soil prior to doing either. Lots of good compost and hummus is a must. If you seed you will have to water (keep the seed) moist while germinating and a week or so later, use some straw over the seed to help retain moisture and help hide the seed from the birds. If you Sod, Water first, lay sod, water, roll it down good, and water when it looks stressed. water deeply to encourage the roots to go deep, and do not mow until over 2 to 2.5".

You might also go to some of the older homes in Marysville, Olivehurst or Sutter and see what they have and how much they water. You can learn alot from just looking around and asking easy queations. What ever you decide, go through THIS SITE and it will tell you great things on soil preparation, fertilization, watering, composting and compost teas for your flower garden/vegtable garden. and even getting rid of bugs. Enjoy, read and learn.

By the way. You are in a great place for growing almost anything.
