From what you describe, Buffalo grass would be an excellent choice. It would look great with your other grass, would not require a sprinkler system, if treated with a regiment of Corn Gluten Meal weeds would get under control. Also only has to be mowed a couple of times a year, It is more expensive initially, but over the long run would be cheaper to maintain. I live in Burleson if you would like to see a stand.

I planted mine with sod. From what I have read about Buffalo Grass, sod is the best way to go. You can plant by seed, if you wish.
