We live on a large lake, have ducks visit yard frequently, applied corn gluten as fertlizer in deference to our visitors who began dying shortly thereafter. Ducks are very prone to botulism/bacterias. Could the corn gluten have caused this? :( :(

I think you used the right product for the wrong reasons. Corn gluten meal is a pre-emergant herbicide. Corn meal is for fungus and bacteria.
That being said I doubt that killd the ducks. If you have choice geese are much better than ducks if you are talking about domestics.
