In an organic or sustainable gardening program, the goal is to NOT use any pesticides (natural or synthetic) as much as possible. Sevin dust kills good and bad organisms. And some natural controls like citrus oils or tobacco teas can kill a few beneficial microbes if abused or overused!
The goal of all forms of sustainable farming is to build your soil first, use lots of creative intensive companion planting everywhere you can, cover cropping, mulching, and of course composting, all year round. Lots of aerobic microbes and macrobes like earthworms, will keep most of your pests and fungal diseases away. Using good foliar teas like compost tea recipes or seaweed teas are great too.
The best mild natural pest controls (when needed) are described by HG on this website. Do a search on the site to find them. Garret juice plus garlic and hot peppers is his favorite.
